Hello,
Can someone please point me to a best practices document or recommended design for installation and configuration of Nagios in a brand new environment?
Basic monitoring of servers(cpu, memory, swap, etc.) and disk space, along with a few http monitored processes is all that is needed at this point in time.
The environment consists of a 10 server oracle enterprise linux set of servers running 6.3 with one server dedicated to just running Nagios.

We do not have individual guides for configuring hosts/services as far as a best practice goes. It's really up to you and your environment as the Nagios Admin. There are a number of different ways you can build your system from the ground up. I'd recommend reading through a few of the "How To's" on this page and ask questions of us when they arise:
