Can you show us what you have on line 12 of your apache2.conf? Something there is halting the init script.

I did went further with reverting back to very old apache conf files .Now apache seems to be running.
I can start nagios too.

Now I think i am very close to resolution but get some other issue

I am able to open http://awsjmp.support.xerox.com/nagios4/index.php .
Data for servers/services is displaying in but i could not see anyframes or tables.Something is messing up.
Attached output for refernce

But when i try http://awsjmp.support.xerox.com/nagios4. I get

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /nagios4/ on this server.

You may need to reset your htaccess password, or check the Allow options in the apache config. Could you post the current working version of the vhost file for the /nagios site?

Just curious why you're using <DirectoryMatch ...>?

You can use two <Directory> statements and make things much more likely to succeed.

By the way, I noticed your host is xerox.com. If you're in the Rochester, NY area, so are we. We might be able to help you out in person.

you can close this.

this is due to missing .cgi files in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/nagios4/
