monitor remote host from nagios

Hi

I have to monitor a device which is connected beyond one server ..

i can ping that server ip from nagios but not that device but then to i would like to monitor that device how?

please some one help me to solve this problem

NRPE is what you want:

It will let you use the one pingable server as a proxy to check the other server.

i have one doubt where should i install this nrpe on my nagios server or on the server which i would like to monitor

You will need to install NRPE on the middle server, the one that Nagios can reach. Then you will need to configure the NRPE commands on that server to be whatever you need to check on the remote machine.
