setting default read only community for all hosts

Is there a way to set in the service template a default read only community string that can be used in the snmp checks? I see I can add it to the host templates but for a large site setting it for all hosts would be time consuming.

Sure, you can create a service template the exact same way you would with a host, just think of it as creating one service, with a few options that will be inherited on your services you assign it to:
