Nagios service latency and pending state issue
Nagios service latency and pending state issue
Dear All,
I am using Nagios to monitor our infrastructure and there is a huge performance issue. Service checks are not happening on time and services remains in pending state. Could you please help to fix these issues. Below are the details.
Nagios core version: 3.5
Hosts: 2301
services : 16700
Service Check Execution Time: 0.00 / 762.76 / 21.565 sec
Service Check Latency: 0.00 / 125337.24 / 7675.700 sec
Host Check Execution Time: 0.00 / 31.06 / 6.602 sec
Host Check Latency: 0.00 / 9120.72 / 7466.344 sec
# Active Host / Service Checks: 1758 / 13493

Re: Nagios service latency and pending state issue
Well, we will need some more information.
Could you start by posting (in code wraps):
1. Your nagios.cfg.
2. A tail of nagios.log:
3. Any other helpful information - Are you using any third party add-ons like mod_gearman, mklivestatus, check_mk, etc?
Could you start by posting (in code wraps):
1. Your nagios.cfg.
2. A tail of nagios.log:
Code: Select all
tail -25 /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log

Re: Nagios service latency and pending state issue
Is this a recent issue where performance deteriorated rapidly or has the performance just changed a lot over time? You're definitely approaching the limits of what Nagios 3.X could handle on a single machine.
Is your NDO db located on the same server? What kind of disk connectivity do you have for your VM? Are you using virtio hardware (particularly the disk BUS but also the NIC)?
Also, is the machine contending for CPU or memory resources on the KVM host? I notice you have given it 8 vCPUs, often times over allocating CPUs (especially when you do it for all the machines on the host) can cause major resource contention.
Suggestions - verify that you're using virtio hardware first
offload your mysql db if you haven't already second
see where that gets you.

hello,
Sorry for delay in response. Please find the details below

performance deteriorated rapidly. If we upgrade to Nagios 4.x. will it be fine?

NDO db in a remote vm server. we are using iscis disk. No virtio h/w
Also, is the machine contending for CPU or memory resources on the KVM host?
No.

Re: Nagios service latency and pending state issue
Nagios 4.x greatly improves the speed of Nagios overall - if that is a valid option, I recommend upgrading as soon as is reasonable. If we upgrade to Nagios 4.x. will it be fine?
