Good news, the command "sc sdset SCMANAGER D:(A;;CCLCRPRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCRPWPRC;;;SY)(A;;KA;;;BA)S:(AU;FA;KA;;;WD)(AU;OIIOFA;GA;;;WD)" worked perfectly from an administrator command prompt on Windows 2003, 2008R2 and 2012R2. No reboot was required, although one was performed to ensure the servers came back up OK.
I can only say thanks ever so much - the help on the Nagios forums is one of the main things that makes this monitoring system so great
We will monitor on the three back office servers over the next few days and roll out to production servers.

Thanks for the kind words storkie2010.
Sounds like you're all dialed in so I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread and mark solved.
