Looking for Beta Testers

Postby mguthrie » Mon Dec 20, 2010 1:41 pm

Hey Everybody,

We've got the V-Shell split into a main trunk version, and a development branch. We're wondering if there are some people out there who would be willing to help us test out new features. As developers, we love feedback, so anyone out there who's willing to test out the V-Shell on their monitoring environment, we'd love to have your help and input on how to make V-Shell better! Send a reply to this post if you're interested.

Terminology clarification would be helpful. Normally "trunk" means the development branch. Do you mean you created a beta branch in addition to the existing trunk?

Thank for the clarification. The V-Shell will have a production release, which is up on the exchange, and a development version which will test out new features, which is what we need testing for.

Why don't you tag your "production releases"?

I have checked out the trunk for my production site. The biggest "bug" I found was how you handle the host icons. In my opinion you should be linking to those in the original Nagios Core interface, either in the HTML code or by symlinking, but not force us to replicate our icons collection to a subfolder of V-Shell. I wrote a review on the Exchange page of V-Shell and I also wrote about the issue on my blog (actually both are roughly the same content, copy&pasta)

At the moment the production release is the current "trunk" on SVN, which is packaged on exchange.nagios.org. There isn't an official "development release," just the devel SVN repo.

Part of the request for a new interface was a nagios "facelift." Some of the icons are new, while the old list is still maintained and ship with V-Shell. I appreciate the feedback, although I'm not sure including a new icons directory really qualifies as a bug.

I appreciate you posting the instructions for linking the icons to the Core interface, as well as the feedback!
