Description:Can I use autodiscovery with Nagios?

Solution:In general it is considerd a BAD idea because you should allready know which services are critical to you or your organisation. There is very little point in monitoring the coffeepot webcam if you did not know it was there before. If the coffeepot webcam is a critical asset you should have known about it allready and just have waited for Nagios to install to start monitoring it. For those still bend on doing this there are some tools: nmap2nagios is a script for generating template-based object configuration files from Nmap XML output. http://sourceforge.net/projects/nmap2nagios/ Check out NACE. Its not blind autodiscovery, but rather a way to detect and configure hosts via rules in a kind of query. http://freshmeat.net/projects/nace/
