Is there a way to send a test email notification for a given service or host ? I need to do this and have had to forcing a service to fail in order to test the notifications. There needs to be a better way, especially when the service is not under my control and I cannot force it to fail or stop.

Seems to me from the documentation that services can have a dependency on hosts only. I need to set a service dependency on another service. Is this possible? How would I go about the config for this? Links to documentation that I might have missed?

I have been trying to understand the actual mechanics of flap detection. I know that this is based on the percent of time that the service goes up and down. But what time window is used? Can this be tuned? I cannot seem to find this explanation in the documentation.
