Re: define service and hostgroup directives
Hi Scott, Can you confirm that the correct directive to use is hostgroups for services and hosts blocks? The definition you pointed me at defines the hostgroup_name as the directive to use and not hostgroups. see valid directives listed from url given below The description mentions hostgroups, but t...

define service and hostgroup directives
When setting up a db to hold the nagios cfg files, I noticed that some of the services I had defined used both the hostgroup_name and hostgroups directives, both worked, which led me to look at why both would be available for use with the define service block. :? The nagios documentation only mentio...

Re: Service checks when host is down
That looks reasonable ... I will try this out. One thing remaining, the dummy-checker itself will create additional 'critical' events in nagios. Is there anything we can do with this (ie to stop reporting to nagios and hence cluttering up the display) ie is it possible to hide this from view and fro...

Re: Service checks when host is down
As suggested I raised an enhancement request... [*]One service cannot be dependent on one host, just on one (or more) service(s) and what we're talking about is making one or more services dependent on their host. All the services I test with a given host are very specific to that host (ie most are ...

Disabling Service check when host is down.
Enhancement request; I have posted messages whto the support forumj http://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9532 which have suggested the parent/child approach. Im not in favour of this approach as it create a substantial body of worek, plus it would create an additional admin overhe...

Re: Service checks when host is down
Sounds good. I am unclear how I should create these relationships. Could you define how I would go about this ... by way of referring to my example below ... I have 70 windows podia in lecture rooms. Podia are all in one group called 'windows-podia' 6 services are setup and operate against the 'wind...

Re: Service checks when host is down
Thanks Scott, The task of adding inter-dependencies to 2000 disparate devices is very daunting ... I was looking for a more general switch. ie In most cases if the host is down, service checks are unecessary, wasteful of resources, and cause excessive cluttter on nagios monitors. Any process which a...

Service checks when host is down
I am trying to tidyup our Nagios view of hosts/devices by reducing the number services marked as critical . When a host is down, is it possible to selectively tell Nagios not to test the associated service(s) (and mark it as unknown). I say selectively, as I have one service which is a Wake on Lan s...

Re: Nagiosbpi suggestions
Sounds good, One additional suggestion:  the core nagios view provides an ability to sort columns, (eg sort by status) will this facility be included in the v2 of nagiosbpi ? One bug noticed. :( windows server C:\drive test labelled as "C:\ Drive Space". Ocassionally after an edit in...
