My unix admin was able to get mysql running after that the install completed.

Still having issues with installation, we have ldap and it appears to be interferring with the install. I continue to get kick out during the 2-usersgroups portion of the installation. I tried the touch command you recommended and it did get me past the useradd issue I was having. Unfortunately it did not get me much further as now I fail on the 3-dbservers step in the install as again it is trying to add a user (I think). Starting MySQL... chown: `mysql:mysql': invalid user chown...

Just confirmed ldap manages users, have yet to try the touch string hopefully that will at least get me past this immediate issue... Thanks!

have not tried that, how does this impact the balance of the installation?

As I mentioned server originally had nagios core, I had the same install issue which is why the server was refreshed with a clean install of RHEL5 (FYI this is a 64-bit RHEL5 installation)
