Re: using contacts causing double email alert
Which check in that latest config gives you notifications you don't expected? Based on what I see in the above conf.d zip, the F drive critical will notify the itdba: the F drive check defines no contacts or contact groups and uses generic-service-dba template. The generic-service-dba template defin...

Re: using contacts causing double email alert
I took a few minutes to give a couple examples that I believe outline what you are running into. Maybe the arrows and diagramming will help (there are bits left out for clarity; the bottom service definition would have a 'name' line at least). In the first example, you end up with both productionadm...

Re: using contacts causing double email alert
That config doesn't match up with the logs - the logs show a notification to an 'itnetworksupport' contact. There isn't one of those in the conf.d zip (it has an itnetworksupport1, but not an itnetworksupport). Looking at the F drive service definition as provided in that zip, it has no contact or c...

Re: using contacts causing double email alert
You will want to do that for any template. The service definitions for generic-service, generic-service-dba, generic-service-mesproject, generic-service-cim all should likely have 'register 0' (I don't know that I see all those in use in the configs provided, but since they are intended to be templa...

Re: using contacts causing double email alert
For a template, you want to use register 0 like posted above.

Re: using contacts causing double email alert
The missing 'register 0' in the contact-template jumps out at me: define contact{ name contact-template service_notification_period 24x7 host_notification_period 24x7 service_notification_options w,u,c,r host_notification_options d,r service_notification_commands notify-service-by-email host_notific...

Re: Nagios plugin for SMART monitoring HP drive array
check_ide_smart is for checking S.M.A.R.T. status of a drive - this is not the same as the HP "Smart Array" raid controllers. There are a large number of HP monitoring plugins: http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Plugins/Hardware/Server-Hardware/HP-%28Compaq%29 is a good place to start lo...

Re: Treating Unknown as Critical
The scenario doesn't sound wrong to me - you can't check drive size on a drive if the drive is not known. So, the check *should* come back as unknown. If you want notifications for a service in an unknown state, you need to set it with 'notification_options' for the service definition. It wouldn't s...

Re: "Cannot find file" error on host
I'll take a swing since I have an unhealthy relationship with perl... The perl script has a few issues: #!usr/bin/perl Missing leading slash there. Should probably be: #!/usr/bin/perl The \n here probably should be removed: open (FILE, ">$putFile\n"); I'd suggest adding an 'or die' too: op...

Re: Would greatly appreciate some help configuring notificat
I'm not an ubuntu guy, but I saw a few posts where people claimed you needed to do sudo apt-get purge sendmail* Maybe there is a startup script still lurking? For now, you could just kill the process id you found in the netstat above: kill putPIDhere and if it still hangs around throw a -9 in there:...
