OK, this can be marked closed. I changed the service template to be 3 max checks. That didn't change any of the existing ones, so I'm not sure if that accomplished anything. I removed a drive from a server today and went to delete the service from CCM. It didn't delete, saying there were dependencies. Sorry, for some reason I just now saw this reply. No, this isn't really urgent, just something I want to get set up and configured as part of tweaking all our settings.

I'll check our configs and re-test today or tomorrow and post an update.
