Thanks for the advice, which I will keep back for the moment as the Nagios Support guys are looking at the issues.

If what is meant by NAGIOSQL is the nagiosql databases in MariaDB then I can manually log into it without issue. Why is this such a problem?

Just upgraded to 5.3.1 - same error "NAGIOSQL LOGIN FAILED!" - none of the other issues my server has were fixed with the 'upgrade' to 5.3.1 - difficult to tell what it actually did apart from delaying everything until the maintenance window to do the 'upgrade'. By now you may be detecting...

Due to issues with upgrades etc the customer is VERY reluctant to let me do anything to it for a while. This loss of traffic statistics a few days ago was the last straw. Worse I just discovered that, after a reload yesterday to fix a different problem (again with Nagios XI), the traffic collection ...

Just a note, I did try commenting that last line out and reloading the server - luckily I had backed it up before hand as the server went away and never came back - it's hosted by the way - had to restore the disk from the dashboard to get it back
