Re: difference between Hard state and Soft state

Here's the official documentation: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagioscore/docs/nagioscore/4/en/statetypes.html The official documentation includes all of the cases in which HARD/SOFT states are triggered. There's nothing much shorter that is also comprehensive. In brief: SOFT states: When a ...

Re: Nagios LMS - Client Script Accidently Run on Server Itse

You could disable the local rsyslog service, or remove the nagioslogserver config file located in /etc/rsyslog.d and restart the rsyslog service.

Re: Monitoring JMX With Nagios XI - NRPE: Unable to read out

Is 172.21.0.100 the address of the remote machine hosting the Java process you wish to monitor? I assume ecs-monitoring is the machine hosting your Nagios XI instance? If so, the Java version/environment on this server is irrelevant as you are executing check_jmx remotely via check_nrpe . I'd like t...

Re: Error 1 when make install-webconf

Are you following any particular documentation for your Nagios Core installation? It looks as if some prefixes may have been entered incorrectly during the configure step and the leading / has been stripped from the destination path. Are you running your make commands as root? Per the official docum...

Re: Monitoring JMX With Nagios XI - NRPE: Unable to read out

Give the fix mentioned in the second half of this post a try (hard-coding the Java path): https://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47949&p=247768#p247768 If JAVA_HOME is being resolved by Bash, NRPE likely isn't picking it up. Hard-coding the Java path in check_jmx can fix that.

Re: Monitor IIS Application Pool with Nagios (problem)

First off, thanks for providing *all* of the dang information required to start troubleshooting this problem. That's top-notch :) Check out this KB article: https://support.nagios.com/kb/article.php?id=528 I believe you just need to move your check_ms_iis_application_pool command definition to the [...

Re: Export Host & Services to CSV

You can use the JSON CGIs to get a list: https://labs.nagios.com/2014/06/19/exploring-the-new-json-cgis-in-nagios-core-4-0-7-part-1/ If you're using a recent Nagios Core version, the CGIs should already be available; No installation needed. Converting the resulting JSON to CSV is pretty easy from th...

Re: Add notes to system via CLI

I'm just not familiar with the CLI Nagios has, or if I have to submit these changes through some kind of HTTP API. Under the "Help" section of the Nagios XI GUI, there should be complete documentation for usage of the REST API that comes packaged with Nagios XI. I don't believe there is a...

Re: How to install or use WebInject

The official documentation is about as good as it gets: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagiosxi/docs/Monitoring-Websites-With-Nagios-XI.pdf http://www.webinject.org/plugin.html Unfortunately, WebInject requires some general knowledge of web forms/pages. Selenium is another option for monitoring...

Re: Check_ping from one server to another

The base Nagios plugins suite includes the check_ping plugin for this use case: http://nagios-plugins.org/doc/man/check_ping.html Here's a few examples of the plugin's usage: https://linux.101hacks.com/unix/check-ping/ As far as how you turn that command execution into something Nagios can understan...
