Thanks; I am able to replicate the issue 100% of the time. Thank for for snapshots :) Just to add to the original post; I've tested the latest tools: VMware-Tools-10.0.0-3000743 and as soon as the installation is done within 15 minutes Nagios stops working and it reports "no data received"...
