Thanks for the info. I commented out those lines of code and recompiled. Worked like a charm! It's no longer flooding /var/log/messages.

What are the contents of /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg ? On my monitoring server? There isn't one. I didn't have one on my 2.5 server either.
