I have removed this from the inventory and this has resolved the problem.
not sure why it would cause the getguests.pl to fail but it did.
a little bit of house cleaning is required for our virtual environment

Yes that worked i can see all the Hosts and all the guests running on the hosts.

our ESX Host 05 appreas to be the problem. After further investigation i have found out that the ESX host 5 has the same error message when using the root username.
this may be why the vcenter fails
