Nagios Monitoring ASG in AWS
Hi, I've been tasked to see if it is possible for Nagios to monitor the health/services running on EC2 instances that are within an autoscaling group in AWS. (i.e. serverA is removed from the ASG, serverB takes it's place and Nagios starts monitoring the resource usage/services of this new host). Am...

Re: Different check results depending how invoked
Thanks for the reply both. The home directory does exist - we're using the pre-built virtual appliance.
I'll do a bit more digging tomorrow to see if I can work this out, but for now I'm happy with the workaround I have in place and so the call can be closed if you like.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Different check results depending how invoked
You said that you ran it as the nagios user, but I'd like to make sure you became nagios correctly. Did you do "su - nagios" or "su nagios"? If you omit the -, your environment won't be pulled in correctly, which might cause this problem. Another possibility is that your plugin ...

Different check results depending how invoked
Hi, I'm currently creating a plugin which will allow us to monitor various services in AWS using the AWS SDK. The SDK automatically loads the AWS access keys and configuration values from files in the ~/.aws/config and ~/.aws/credentials files. Executing the check from the command line as the Nagios...

Re: Return consistent JSON results from API
@JGCG, let us know if it is OK to close this topic. Thanks! Please do, thanks. Edit: Just another observartion, fields with no value return '{}' (empty object), as opposed to an empty string or null, as with the 'alias' field below. { "recordcount": "1", "hoststatus": ...

Re: Return consistent JSON results from API
Thanks for pointing this out, this is due to the fact that the original results are being given in XML and converted to JSON for our API. I agree that it should stay as an array no matter how many of the objects there are in there. The conversion on our side is the problem and can be updated to wor...

Return consistent JSON results from API
The JSON returned from the API returns inconsistent types depending on whether mutliple results are returned or not. As an example, requesting the status of a single host returns an object but requesting the status of multiple hosts returns an array of objects Would it not be better to return an arr...

Nagios & OS Update
We're running Nagios XI 5.5.2 (installed from OVA CentOS 6.9) and are looking to update to the latest version of Nagios XI and perform OS updates at the same time, but the last yum update ran was over a year ago so I'm a bit weary of hitting the go button. In terms of applying the updates, what's th...
