Have you installed NSClient++ on the Windows host? Any installation issues? Can you run the following command from you ubuntu host and post the result:

The trick here is that depending on the configuration of your dhcp server, dhcpd is expecting requests to be "broadcast" or "unicast". The default for the check_dhcp plugin is broadcast so if your dhcp server is expecting a unicast request, you need to include the -u flag.

There are several on the Nagios Exchange. I'm sure one of these will meet your needs. There is also a wizard in Nagios XI for monitoring a dhcp server.

Please see Kevin's recommendation. This plugin will check for an occurrence of specific text in a specific file. However, if you need to identify the most recent of files of a specific filename pattern and search that file for the "failed" text, I'm not able to find anything on the Nagios ...
