Re: Monitor python service on remote linux host

Here's some official documentation with simple sample checks you can configure in Nagios Core: https://support.nagios.com/kb/category.php?id=186 The Process Checks and Service Checks sections might be useful for your situation. They offer examples using several different agents/plugins. I would sugg...

Re: Debian as a supported Linux distribution?

That sounds like a bit of a nightmare to maintain from a Nagios XI life-cycle perspective without a particularly robust set of regression tests. There's a whole lot of underlying components that prop-up Nagios XI. I'm also not totally confident Core itself (or any moderately sized C project) could r...

Re: Check UDP ports?

Validating a request/response pair is the only way you could feasibly know whether or not a UDP port is actually capable of receiving traffic. This is a limitation of UDP as it is a connectionless protocol. Simply checking if routing rules allow for access of a port is no guarantee that traffic can ...

Re: Check UDP ports?

check_udp is the easiest plugin for this. What you should send/receive depends on the process bound to the port. You could experiment with this plugin using the -v or --verbose flags to see what is returned when providing various send/expect strings. Or ask the vendor/developer for valid request/re...

Re: Adding service via API

Strictly speaking, this is not a Nagios XI problem. You have un-escaped quotes ( " ) in your command. In this particular case , Bash requires you to escape quotes like so: \" You also have un-escaped bangs ( ! ) in your command. In this particular case , Bash requires you to escape bangs l...

Re: nagios / check mk extension sms problem

Can you share the command definitions you are using for your notification handlers?

Having the associated script(s) used in those command definitions would also be useful.

Re: getting error while installing NagiosXl on RHEL 7.4

The root problem: Error: Unable to write to check_result_path ('/usr/local/nagios/var/spool/checkresults') - Permission denied Does this machine have any special security hardening in place? That folder should be automatically created and correctly permission'd as part of the installation process. C...
