It depends on many things. For example, if you were a novice, using a virtual machine image would be a very easy and convenient way to go. However, if you were an advanced user, installing nagiosxi from a source, using your standard Linux OS would be perfectly fine.

I am going to try to run the install script on CentOS 5.6 (Installation on CentOS 5.5 usually goes pretty smoothly). I will get back to you as soon as I identify the problem. Meanwhile, you can try to reinstall httpd by running: "yum install httpd" and then "service httpd status"...

Can you locate the "contacts.cfg" and "contactgroups.cfg" files? Is there any info in them? You can type in terminal: "locate contacts.cfg" and "locate contactgroups.cfg" respectively. Then open them in a text editor to view the contents. Note: You may have to...

"retention.dat" is the file that Nagios will use for storing status, downtime, and comment information before it shuts down. When Nagios is restarted it will use the information stored in this file for setting the initial states of services and hosts before it starts monitoring anything. H...
