Re: Spikes in load

It's very hard to answer that question without significantly more information. But yes, the Nagios system does maintenance RRD file maintenance and database cleanup and stuff like that on regular cycles. 100% CPU load is not a problem - it simply means you're efficiently using your processor without...

Re: NRDP update only when the state changes?

Yes, I'm aware of how it works today. That's why I was asking if there could be an option added that would only have it send for state changes. Thanks.

NRDP update only when the state changes?

Using the built-in NRDP outbound transfers, it would be nice to make NRDP a little less chatty. Maybe an option to only send an NRDP update only when the state changes? We've got customers with remote satellite-based connections that are not always working. We're thinking of a way to queue up those ...

Re: chown -R nagios. /usr/local/nagiosxi?

Yes, you are correct on sticky bit operation. Which is fine for the custom/css directory. I kind of got thinking at a larger scope and was wondering if there's any reason why the nagios user can't own the nagiosxi directory tree? At any rate, we've got our STIG compliant solution and I've got some i...

See who receives notifications for a host or service

I have to admit, with all my Nagios knowledge, a customer stumped me with this one: Is there a way from Nagios XI GUI, without going through CCM screens, to see who receives notifications for a particular host or service? I know that I can go to the Nagios Core interface and look at "Configurat...

Re: chown -R nagios. /usr/local/nagiosxi?

@mbellerue, I didn't see this part of your post because of Scott's edit: As a potential alternative, because I like playing within the system, if the files in question are owned by the apache user and group, what about doing the reverse of above and just adding the nagios user to the apache group? W...

Re: chown -R nagios. /usr/local/nagiosxi?

Thanks to both. I should have been more clear. I put it in the title of this note, but didn't make it clear in the text of the posting. We're not contemplating chown on /usr/local/nagios, just /usr/local/nagiosxi. Our initial examination of that (mainly to deal with uploaded custom components from X...

chown -R nagios. /usr/local/nagiosxi?

We used to not really care about what user owned what files inside of /usr/local/nagios because most of our sysadmin work involving Nagios was done as root. Now we have a customer where the situation is different and elevated access is strictly controlled through sudo. So we got to looking at why we...

Re: Monitoring Engine always going down

I have nothing specific to have you look for, but the startup message is

Code: Select all

Nagios 4.4.3 starting...
(or whatever your version is).

You could look for that in /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log and then see what comes before it.
