Did you run through a wizard to set it up?

The other option is using the snmpwalk wizard, and specifying the OID that maps to how much traffic has gone through x int.

Can you run this too since JMX is going to utilize this port directly? Then, as requested, post the JMX configuration settings that are running on the client side.

As long as you haven't made any custom changes to the actual Nagios Core components (just your object files as you described) - then you should be fine to upgrade.
