NAGIOS TO NAGIOS CONNECTION

Post by Gaetanoberti »

Hi.
I'm looking for all the possible ways of connecting two NAGIOS servers located on different lans (with a firewall in between).

The first NAGIOS is monitoring all the field devices, collecting data on their state, and the second has to receive (or collect) these data in order to show them on customized dashboards.

I've already read something on the topic, about the use of FUSION or SNMP Trap Exchange, but I need more in-depht technical clarifications on the architecture and the communication protocol (and data exchange mode). I'm also interested in alternative ways besides FUSION and SNMP.
Is any technical paper on the matter available ? or site?

Any suggestion would be very much appreciated (even providing any useful technical detail directly on this forum).

Cordially

Are you using Nagios XI or Nagios Core? What version of either? It's going to be impossible to be specific without that info.

That said, as far as fusion goes, this is on the product page
Remote monitoring servers need only be accessible via HTTP or HTTPS, removing the need for dedicated VPN links and custom firewall rules.

If you are seriously considering fusion, the best course of action is to email sales@nagios.com.

SNMP uses UDP. What type of OSes are you monitoring? XI has several built-in SNMP Wizards.

In general, please see https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/gen ... utions.pdf -- once you decide on a method, we can go into more technical detail.
