For clarity, I suggested to @dwasswa to have you submit a ticket. Tickets allow us to set up remote sessions, and generally are more targeted support since it's essentially one-on-one. That said, we can certainly continue on the forums.

Also for clarity, @dwasswa was having you delete the items in the spool, not the actual rrds. He asked for two wc -l outputs, which you gave, but you gave a third, based on his response I'm assuming he thought that was the output of one of the wc -l commands. It would have been the right move if that were the case.

The latest version of Firefox is 56. The latest version of Chrome is 62. You could try upgrading to see if this resolves the issue. Also, what OS? Have you tried IE or any other browsers?

We've seen a lot of issues when people upgrade PHP outside of the default repos. What's the output of the following commands:

yum repolist all

Are you able to upgrade XI to 5.4.10 and confirm this is an issue in the latest version? Did you upgrade to 5.4.8 and start seeing this immediately? If so, what was your previous version?

If you remove the gauge dashlet, does that resolve the issue?

There's a bit about maximizing the performance of dashlets in https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf . Increasing the refresh interval (that is, make the number bigger) is one way you can gain a lot of performance output.

Can you PM me your Profile? You can download it by going to Admin > System Config > System Profile and click the ***Download Profile*** button towards the top. If for whatever reason you *cannot* download the profile, please put the output of View System Info (5.3.4+, Show Profile if older) in the thread (that will at least get us some info). This will give us access to many of the logs we would otherwise ask for individually. If security is a concern, you can unzip the profile take out what you like, and then zip it up again. We may end up needing something you remove, but we can ask for that specifically.

You can also generate a profile manually using the script at /usr/local/nagiosxi/html/includes/components/profile/getprofile.sh

That should generate a profile in /usr/local/nagiosxi/var/components/ which you can get off the server with an application such as FileZilla.

After you PM the profile, please update this thread. Updating this thread is the only way for it to show back up on our dashboard.

Thank you, I am not opposed to opening a ticket. I was simply questioning why we went straight to a ticket without troubleshooting the Gauge issue.

Don't worry, I never thought he was asking me to to delete the RRDs. Side note: I did delete the three old entries in the spool from 2016. Also I did add the additional (unrequested) output of what was actually in the directory because I knew that there shouldn't be anything stale in there, and suspected the follow up would be "can you give us a list of whats in that directory?"

Firefox 55 and chrome 61 on Fedora 25; Firefox 56 and Chrome 62 on Fedora 26; IE on windows 7 and 8.1. All display the same issue.

We've seen a lot of issues when people upgrade PHP outside of the default repos. What's the output of the following commands:

Are you able to upgrade XI to 5.4.10 and confirm this is an issue in the latest version? Did you upgrade to 5.4.8 and start seeing this immediately? If so, what was your previous version?

I can upgrade. I checked before posting here, and I didnt see anything that looked immediately related, but I have no objection to trying this. I will give that a go.

If you remove the gauge dashlet, does that resolve the issue?

I've been trying to figure out how to do that since we don't use the gauge dashlet at all. Short of using firebug, how would i do this?

There's a bit about maximizing the performance of dashlets in https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf . Increasing the refresh interval (that is, make the number bigger) is one way you can gain a lot of performance output.

Ive been keeping an eye on performance as a matter of course, and everything looks good here. System load and memory are great, and I/O Wait is under 0.10%. I changed refresh interval to 3000 and experienced no change in the issue.

Can you PM me your Profile? You can download it by going to Admin > System Config > System Profile and click the ***Download Profile*** button towards the top. If for whatever reason you *cannot* download the profile, please put the output of View System Info (5.3.4+, Show Profile if older) in the thread (that will at least get us some info). This will give us access to many of the logs we would otherwise ask for individually. If security is a concern, you can unzip the profile take out what you like, and then zip it up again. We may end up needing something you remove, but we can ask for that specifically.

You can also generate a profile manually using the script at /usr/local/nagiosxi/html/includes/components/profile/getprofile.sh

That should generate a profile in /usr/local/nagiosxi/var/components/ which you can get off the server with an application such as FileZilla.

After you PM the profile, please update this thread. Updating this thread is the only way for it to show back up on our dashboard.

Firefox 55 and chrome 61 on Fedora 25; Firefox 56 and Chrome 62 on Fedora 26; IE on windows 7 and 8.1. All display the same issue.

I'm glad I asked. I don't believe we test any of those. I will get some clarity on that. UPDATE: we don't as a part of our normal QA process, but I'm spinning up a Fedora box now.

As for the upgrade, sometimes things don't upgrade properly and kicking it can resolve issues. In most circumstances, running the 5.4.8 upgrade over what's installed gets you what you need from this, but if it's a bug it's easier to deal with in the latest version.

Take a look in the /var/log/httpd/error_log file on the system, there are some permission errors accessing one of the SSL certs.

For a quick test, can you move the .xml and .rrd file out of the /usr/local/nagios/share/perfdata/<hostname> folder, let the check run a for 20 minutes and see if the issue comes back?

The run the following commands and post the /tmp/info.txt file.

I wasn't aware of the cert issue, thanks for that. It should be fixed now.
Now for a surprise: the issue persists through moving the rrd and xml file. The newly created one exhibits the exact same issue. The page freezes and eventually firefox asks if I want to kill it, twice (I'm assuming there are two scripts that are slowing down.)

Thanks for the info. The packages look pretty standard that are on your system.
That is surprising that when they are recreated, the issue still persists.
One question, it looks like you have that service setup on 2 different hosts, do they both fail the same?

They do not. We migrated servers a few weeks back and I re-enabled the old check even though it doesn’t live there any more, but disabled active checking so we could see historical trends. That one does not fail. The servers being checked are HP-UX, so perhaps it’s something with the plugin and the way it passes data?

It could be how the plugin is returning the data that causes the error. See if you can change the plugin's settings and see if you can open the Performance Tab.
The strange thing is that I copied your RRD file to my XI server and opened it without any issues.
