Auto-Discovery Bug in latest OVA from NagiosXI Downlod Page

Postby LM-PP1 » Wed Jan 18, 2023 6:31 pm

Hello,

I wanted to report a bug found when you import the latest ova file "nagiosxi-5.9.2-64.ova" from the Nagios Download Page: https://www.nagios.com/downloads/nagios-xi/ or https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/get ... sxi-ova-64

After opening the OVA (I used ESX, and workstation both had the same problem), and starting up the server (regardless of trial license or purchased license), after you log in for the first time, and:

* Log in to the page as default nagioadmin account
* Click Configure >> Configuration Wizards
* Select the Auto-Discovery
* It will spin forever, and the right pane will never load the Wizard, and just have a white login screen

Attached is a screenshot of the issue, along with the client side debug message. I tried it, same behaviour with firefox/google chrome/ edge.

Please fix the ova as soon as possible.

SEE ATTACHED PHOTO.

Latest version (with the BUG) is: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/get ... sxi-ova-64

Powershell can be installed in Linux (and obviously you can create nagios check and event handlers in powershell) Telegram bots can easily interact with scripts on the system they are hosted on.

So I ended up writing a number of nagios checks and event handlers in powershell that log into remote windows servers via openssh (no winre or 3rd party solutions, just nice and secure ssh keys) output everything to a telegram bot that I can interact with to launch more scripts (from traceroutes to more complex troubleshooting info collection scripts) and in so doing I have now automatized a huge number of tasks while being able to keep an eye on it,

Thank you for your kind comments. While this is a nice idea / and you can write your own, it is not related to my question. The default OVA installation has a bug.

I would like to ask the Nagios Team to fix the issue. The default OVA of 5.9.2 does not work.

I tried a older OVA with 5.7.5, and that works, but to anyone who uses the public download page, the OVA is broken, and this issue needs to be fixed.

Can Nagios please provide a answer to our ova question above. We are still waiting for the OVA to be fixed, and plan to upgrade soon.

These are community support forums and probably not checked by nagios support. You would need to open a case with nagios if you want support from nagios.
Think about searching the internet about your question. It will give you a million possibilities in the blink of an eye.

I did some more research and verified that this also exists in the latest tarball as well (not just the latest ova).

The problem is specifically with the Auto Discovery-Plugin that is bundled with the latest Nagios XI.

Can someone please help fix this?

See attached photo for the bug in the Auto-Discovery Service. Please help ASAP!!!

Can anyone please help us? We already have a support contract and request support assistance with this. It is a bit frustrating that no one is helping us with this issue.

All,

We found it in the docs.

BUG: The link in the CCM Wizards > "Autodiscovery" no longer works in any versions of Nagios. <--- THE NAGIOS TEAM NEEDS TO FIX THIS

WORKAROUND: The link on the left side works for autodiscovery so just use that one. I dont know why, but this was documented very poorly, see photo. Thanks, and hope this helps anyone with this issue...
