We are going to be in the same situation soon after our RHEL 7 to RHEL8 migration is completed. Thie problem I see here is every time there's an update php 7.2 is put back in. OUr security group wants PHP 8 or higher to be supported which were preparing to do. And with no timetable on nagios XI 6.0 coming out which I hope is php 8 native we have to look at alternatives.

What is Nagios' offical position on php 8 on RHEL 7/8 systems?

I would too be interested in this answer; Once my installation is stable; I may push my test environment to php 8 on RHEL to see what the results are. When going from previous to 7. We started getting many php warning notices and my dev found a non working logic statement related to how they handle missing messages with database communication which will also be submitted today as well.

Our group just completed testing on php 8.0 with the latest nagios code on RHEL8. So far we're not seeing anything but the testing is ramping up. Were confident that this will work correctly. My concern is any legacy wizards or so.

I just loaded from scratch rhel 8 with Nagiosxi 5.9.2 with Remi php 7.4 and then upgraded it to Remi php 8.1
1 dnf module list php
2 dnf module reset php
3 dnf module enable php:remi-8.1
4 yum clean all
5 yum clean packages
6 yum update
8 cd /tmp/nagiosxi/
9 ./upgrade
10 reboot
Seems to have worked the reason I did the upgrade is it switches ixed.7.4.lin to ixed.8.1.lin
I have not test any monitors yet.

But does any one see any issues with this ? or Using PHP 8.1

Not so far. Seems to be processing a bit faster on our end but Ive not seen incompatibilities or so at this time. You should however to make this work be on XI 5.9.0 or higher.
