That really depends on what you want to do - "network monitoring" is a very broad term. I would suggest looking into the Configuration Overview for starters as this will help walk you through how to configure any generic object in Core. From there you can look into the Nagios Plugins Documentation to get a feel for what plugins we provide, then if you need others you can look into the Nagios Exchange.
