Unable to install nsclient++ on windows server 2016

Post by bostjanc »

Hi.
Had problems with one nrpe check with nsclient++ version (NSCP-0.4.4.15-x64.msi).
Decided to uninstall nsclient but it did not want to uninstall it.
I had manually removed nsclient++ service and manually deleted everything in registry linked to nsclient++ string.

When we try to install newer version of nsclient++ (NSCP-0.5.2.35-x64.msi) on the server the installation wizard ends with:
NSClient++ (x64) Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error.
Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wiyard again.
Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.

We haven't rebooted the server yet because it's a production server and it's hard to reboot it.
Any suggestion what to do?
Also if we try to install NSCP-0.4.4.15-x64.msi we receive the same error.

Posting the problem to nsclient++ forum/github will likely be more productive(we are not the authors of the client):

https://forums.nsclient.org/
https://github.com/mickem/nscp/issues

Per https://github.com/mickem/nscp/issues/317, try stopping the DFS service if it is running and gather the installer log if necessary.
