This is your clue: "Main process exited, code=exited, status=203/EXEC"

Find out why NRPE is failing to start by running it manually and see what happens. There's also a log file somewhere, usually it's the system log /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog. Search that for "nrpe" and see what it tells you.

This looks like another clue...

systemctl restart nrpe.service
Failed to restart nrpe.service: Unit nrpe.service not found.

but I’ve also already checked the permissions as well. The permissions are the same for all scripts and majority of them are working (except for check_os_updates). It is also being run as the same user that has the permissions.

For instance, the remote host is on FreeBSD. I have other FreeBSD hosts that use the exact same check_os_updates script and permissions and it works fine. So I’m just trying to figure out why it won’t work in this instance.

It's best to start your own thread rather than take over someone else's. The OP reported problem solved by reinstalling. Your problem sounds like something different and you've provided no details. Please start a new thread with a full description of your problem .

Also, this is an NLS forum so asking about nrpe is probably off topic.
Think about searching the internet about your question. It will give you a million possibilities in the blink of an eye.

If I'm remembering correctly, xinetd doesn't use the nrpe.cfg file. I always run my nrpe as a standalone daemon, so I can't help much on xinetd stuff. What happens if you run 'service nrpe restart'? router login
