We are currently using Nagstamon for providing desktop level alerts. Has anyone tried this (or something similar) with Nagios XI? Thanks,

These should work just fine with NagiosXI. We do plan on keeping compatibility with Nagios Cores' extensive set of Plugins, Event Handlers, and Notifiers.
It looks like this product pools/scrapes the data from Nagios' web interface. It would be much better to make use of a Notifier so changes in status are pushed rather then pooled. For this I've used IM clients(most of these can sit in the tray), IRC is my favorite as it's easy to setup a private server and Clients are plentiful. Same goes for the server software, I use UnrealIRCD and IRCServices.
