Notification List

Post by tmoe »

Hello,
I work on a team of 8 people and we have a weekly on call rotation. We have the rotation set up for the next 3 months and we would like only the on call person and their backup to receive the notification. Does anyone know of a good way to configure this instead of changing the notification list on a weekly basis? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There isn't currently a built-in way of doing this, but you should be able to do some fairly simple scripting outside of Nagios to accomplish it, depending on how you are being notified. For instance, for notifications going out by e-mail, you could set up addresses of on-call@mycompany.com and backup-on-call@mycompany.com, and set up a cron job to modify your mail aliases list to map those to the correct people each week. For other things, like pagers, it would depend on how the handler software you're using works, but likely you can do something similar.
