Please trim whitespace from search entries

Post by eloyd »

Sometimes, I double click stuff from one XI interface tab to search for it in CCM. Sometimes, there's a tab that gets caught in the copy. Please consider trimming leading and trailing whitespace from search entries in XI.

I'd go do this request internally, but I can't remember which tool to go to do do that. :-)

Can you define "stuff"? Where do you see the issue (when copying host names, service names, etc.)? I would like to recreate the problem. An example would be helpful. Thanks!

Yes, copying hostnames and service names.

Go to CCM. From the list of Recently Changed Hosts and Services, I double click on the single-word host called "EricDesktop" and then paste the result into the search box on the "hosts" page. It pastes as "EricDesktop " (note the tab at the end). Search finds nothing because it's searching for the tab as well. Same holds true if the tab is at the beginning.

It seems like that adding a tab before or after the hostname breaks the search - Bryan recreated it. The tab has been added manually though... double clicking on a hostname under the CCM, copying/pasting doesn't include a tab (before or after the name). Very strange. I don't know how you do it...
Anyway, it shouldn't be difficult to fix the search.

Maybe it's Chrome putting it there, but whitespace should still be trimmed. :)

Leading/Trailing whitespace is being trimmed. This change will be available in 5.3.0. Thanks!
