Host monitoring - ping

Post by taelee94 »

hi,

I'm new to nagios and just finished installing nagios' installation on the server. I am trying to monitor 30+ machines just to ping and without the plug-ins. Is this possible? If it can, how would you do it? I bought a book and googled this info but can't find answer to this problem.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Nagios doesn't really do anything without the plugins. It's basically just a tactical display to show the plugin output information in a useful and readable format. Download and install the plugins, as well as the sample config files, which already have the check-ping command defined for you. Then you can just define your 30 hosts and copy and paste, or define a simple template.
