I played around a bit and consulted the CSS compatability table at
http://www.webreview.com/style/css1/cha ... grid.shtml but could
not find anything specific (other than in general Netscape 4.x has lots
of problems with style sheets).

However it looks like Netscape ignores the first class-based CSS selector
because if I add a single line:

.workaroundForNetscape4Bug {}

after the line then the background and font all
start working again!

This change would be good since it should not cause any problems for
any otherbrowsers.
