Check_snmp hanging (please help, first post)

Hi Guys
Im having trouble getting snmp working, i have nagios up and running fine however snmp is not working.
I am trying to monitor a cisco 3750 switch and have left the default settings for snmp (community string = public and udp port 161)
i am trying to check if check_snmp is functioning properly using ./check_snmp -H 10.0.4.10 -C public -o sysUpTime.0 from terminal and it is just hanging.
From the Core web interface it just says (service check timed out) for uptime.
Any ideas what is going on?
