Re: [Nagios-devel] Re:initial scheduling problem

Post by Guest »

Good day,

Sorry for the top-post, but I'm having problems with Outlook properly
quoting non-plaintext messages.

Try adding many services to the host- some that are polled every 5 minutes,
and some that are polled every 30 minutes. Delete the status file, start it
up and see what you get. The time for the first poll never seems to exceed
the longest interval of any service in the configuration, so that should
mean something. There's some sensitive information in our config file, but
perhaps I can find another machine to put Nagios on and try to make a simple
config to illustrate this...

Yep, it does actually take a half hour. It checks the service exactly when
it says it should, too. Nagios shows that my check latency is small (under
a second) too. There is definitely no problem with Nagios doing the checks
as scheduled, the problem is the scheduling itself.

The check_interval is 60, yes. Note that it's only the initial scheduled
time that's off. As soon as the service gets polled the first time, further
checks go exactly as they're configured (normal_check_interval *
check_interval seconds). So, I'm pretty convinced that my config is correct
(at least in that regard).

No need to apologize though; making sure users do the obvious is the first
step for any troubleshooting. =)

I have tried to recreate your problem, and I can't. I added a new host and
service definition and checked the scheduled check time, and it was
scheduled for 2 minutes later (not 1/2 hr later). I have a stupid question.
Do you actually wait 1/2 hour to see when the check occurs or do you just
see that it says 1/2 hour away? Maybe the clock settings are a problem.
You've probably already checked that, but I'm just throwing out ideas. It
doesn't seem to be a bug though. Your problem doesn't occur for me.

Other places to look maybe:
nagios.cfg: inter_check_delay_method (s), service_interleave_factor settings
(s), interval length (60)

One other stupid question: You are setting the check_interval in terms of
minutes, assuming that your interval length in nagios.cfg is set to 60,
right? I'm not trying to be insulting, just spitting out random ideas.

Hope something here helped.
