nagios3 nconf nsclient check_nt problem

I installed nagios3 following these instructions http://www.techienote.com/2011/01/nconf-on-ubuntu.html and configured nsclient++ accordingly. I'm getting unknown status for check_nt, although when I run the command from the ubuntu server i get all the correct information. This is my second install, on my first I didn't install nconf and everything was working fine. Could it be some permission issue I'm missing? If you need to see any config or debug files please let me know.
