Double nagios install issue

Ok here is the issue. I had installed Nagios 3.2.3 and the upgrade to 3.3.1 per the Nagios quicksetup docs.
Using ubuntu server 11.04.

Wanted to install the NRPE plugin so that I could monitor a second Nagios box.
Ran the command apt-get install nagios-nrpe-plugin.

I did not know that this was going to install another instance of nagios. (I have only been working with nagios and ubuntu for a few weeks, so still on the learning curve)

So now I have 2 instances of Nagios. One in etc/nagios3 and one in usr/local.

My original install/config seems to be working fine. Do I need to be concerned about conflicting installs? If so how do I go about removing the nagios3 w/o disturbing my original install?

I'm also having a similar problem, I hope someone can provide us with some useful info/solution quickly.
