Monitoring Device with multiple IPs

Post by gaurangmaru »

Hello All,

I am stuck with situation wherein I have one device to monitor but has two IP addresses. I could monitor both the IPs as an individual host, however, it is going to duplicate all the processes in my report. Hence what I am looking to achieve is as below:

1. There are two IP of device A and B.
2. Primarily I just want to Monitor IP - A,
3. If IP A goes down, then only I want to monitor all the services from IP B. '

I thought of Parent function, however my need is totally inverse then parent functionality.
Looking into different articles, I understand this can be possible with Macros, however I am really not sure of how to use Macros and if it is really possible.

I understand this is really basic parameter which Nagios must be able to fulfill, however I am unable to find the way out of this to make it work.
