Hi,
I need help coming up with a plan to get the Nagios Core running on my network. I have a decommissioned Cisco Ironport C170, several Dell PowerEdge 1850,2850,& 2950 rack servers, and a HP Proliant DL360 G5 server to use as the nagios core appliance.
Which device would you choose to start installing the operating system before you install the Nagios Core?
What operating system would you use for long term growth to possibly upgrade to the Nagios XI core?
need advice on a plan to install the Nagios Core

If you have a virtualization environment available, I would slap Nagios Core on a VM so you can version it and have a more accessible dev->test->prod workflow for your critical monitoring infrastructure.ogle wrote: Which device would you choose to start installing the operating system before you install the Nagios Core?
I don't think there'd be substantial differences with any of those physical machines (available resources notwithstanding).
CentOS. Mostly because Nagios Core is developed first and foremost against CentOS (correct me if I'm wrong), since that is what is officially supported for Nagios XI and Nagios XI runs Nagios Core under-the-hood. You can build Nagios Core on just about any flavor of Linux though, so it's not like you absolutely must use CentOS.ogle wrote: What operating system would you use for long term growth to possibly upgrade to the Nagios XI core?
Just to clarify, Nagios XI and Nagios Core are two different products. One is free and open source, one is not.

This is not really a thing. You would need to import your Core configs into XI: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios_XI.pdfogle wrote: upgrade to the Nagios XI core?
We do offer commercial support for Nagios Core: https://www.nagios.com/services/nagios- ... ort-plans/

Thanks I got the Nagios Core installed on CentOS 7. Just got a big learning curve to attack, I am not finding any quiet time at work and have to work on learning this after work hours.
