NSClient and "NSCP" are one in the same.

NSClient++ and NCPA are the two most popular Windows agents. There is official documentation for setting up NCPA to monitor Windows machines with Nagios Core. If the documentation doesn't work for you, since Nagios Enterprises maintains NCPA they can likely give some solid advice and troubleshooting steps.

You could also use an integrated Windows agent like SNMP or WMI. Plugins exist for both these options but require a bit of Windows know-how to get started:

In addition to @mcapra's suggestion, as long as you ignore the XI-specific pieces, https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf should be useful.

The VM part may end up being useful. Is your nagios VM able to ping or otherwise talk to the Windows servers you are trying to monitor? Ping is often turned off on Windows servers, so that may be the hangup. You don't need to use ping as a host check. You can use whatever command you like.
