Notifications Question

Post by gkramps »

I am new to Nagios and have a question that I couldn't find the answer to. If it's out there, please let me know.

If I setup a contact for a host, will that contact get all the service notifications for that host?

Or will it only get the host down notifications?

Will I have to add that contact to each service that runs on that host?

You don't need to add the contact to each service. It will be implicitly inherited from the host definition via implied inheritance. You can read more about object inheritance here:

Thank you for the information. That answered my question. I had seen that information before, but I guess I didn't read it all carefully enough. My mistake.

Thanks again!

Great to hear! Did you have further (related) questions or are we good to lock this up?
