Welcome to the forum, @ramahal. I'll try to answer your questions in order.

- Basic OS level Monitoring.
Both XI and Core will do the job. Although XI is easier to configure due to added features such as automated config wizards and GUI config editor "CCM".

- VMWARE monitoring.
There is a wizard in XI that does that.

- Database Monitoring.
We have plugins for monitoring different kinds of databases, such as MongoDB or MYSQL. Plugins will work with Core and with XI. Although XI has automated wizards for monitoring DBs which makes the configuration process faster.

- Storage and backup monitoring.
Both Core and XI will do the job. XI is easier to set up because of the CCM and wizards.

- Docker Container monitoring.
Both XI and Core will work. You will need to find a plugin, such as this one:

- Kubernetes Cluster Monitoring.
XI and Core are capable of the monitoring. You will need to find a plugin. Such as this one:

- Application level monitoring. ( Application hosted inside the container ) + Application Transaction Monitoring.
Please take a look here:

- URL monitoring.
Both XI and Core can monitor a URL

Hi Npolovenko,

Thank you for the prompt repsonse. Appreciate it !!!

Also, adding to above we would like to highlight that we have a existing nagios core set-up already, So what are the chances to have it migrated to Nagios XI. Need information pertaining to this as well.

@ramahal, No problem. Importing configs(hosts, services, hostgroups, commands, etc) from a Nagios Core server to the Nagios XI server is easy with the use of the "Import Configs Tool".

You'd have to recreate users manually and set up email notifications:

@ramahal, You said updating the license? Do you already have an XI license? The sales department will be of better assistance for all license related questions. Please email sales@nagios.com or feel free to call. https://www.nagios.com/contact/

@ramahal, Once you get an XI license please ask/email the sales to link it with your forum account. That will give you access to the customer section of the forum which has a faster response time according to the SLA.

When you spin up the new XI. FTP to the old Core server(use FileZilla or WinSCP), navigate to /usr/local/nagios/etc/ and copy the configs, such as hosts.cfg, services.cfg, contact groups and so on.

Next FTP into Nagios XI server and paste the configs in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/newfolder/.

In XI web interface go to the Core Configurations Mager, then click on the import configs tool and import 1 config file at a time in the specified order.
