I'm a complete newbie to Nagios so apologies if this question seems a bit stupid.
I'm trying to monitor [mostly] Linux hosts using NRPE. I followed the 'Quickstart installation guide' for CentOS7 with too much trouble but I was getting a little confused finding definitive installation guides for monitoring remote Linux hosts.
It’s [very] possible I’m missing something but I'm having a difficult time finding simple documentation on just how to monitor remote Linux hosts. https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... linux.html gives an overview but seems short of explicit detail about what needs to be done on the remote host. I've found some other pages (https://www.booleanworld.com/guide-moni ... rs-nagios/ and https://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/c ... ios-3.html) but they confuse the issue a bit by having different paths to the pluigns directory (according to https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/n ... t-620.html).
Anyway, I've hacked it together a bit and got it working (installed nrpe and other plugins on remote hosts by compiling the plugins download source code) but wondering what is the best way to install plugins. I take it I do need plugins installed on remote Linux hosts to monitor them (or can I do something as simple as copying the plugin files from elsewhere?
Cheers,
Tim

bolson - yes, that's really helpful. I wasn't looking in the right place I guess.
A few times during installation I think I ended up in the Knowledge Base' but wasn't really sure how I got there. I was starting in https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... n/toc.html, which seemed to have a bit of a disconnect from the Knowledge Base documentation.
Cheers,
Tim
