I have set up Nagios3 succesfully with email and SMS alerting with escalations as follows:
normal - no action
warning - email group A
critical - email group A
critical for 3 cycles - sms group A
critical for 10 cycles - sms group A an B
critical for 30 cycles - sms group A, B and C
the escalations are set to alert on critical and recovery
the problem occurs when a condition revert to warning from critical - it doesn't reset the escalation level so if it then goes critical again all groups are alerted regardless also if it subsequently goes ok all groups are alerted
this can be fixed by forcing an ok condition thereby causing the alerting to start from the begining
Is there a way to reset the escalation level if a critical condition reverts to warning from critical?
