NAGIOS Core pulling traps

Post by turella »

Hello Nagios Community,

First time posting here, also I'm very new to Nagios.

I need some help in getting traps that are being sent from our NMS (EdgeGenie). These traps are successfully getting to my Nagios server, and each have the corresponding network device's IP. see highlighted below. what I would like help in is how to get these traps to report to the board with their DNS name. Has anyone had this scenario?

for example:
15:42:30.377617 IP edgegenie1.gru.net.snmptrap > 10.0.1.8.snmptrap: C=public4u V2Trap(315) system.sysUpTime.0=1037736778 S:1.1.4.1.0=E:738.10.5.133.0.3 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.2.1401=1611330135 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.3.1401=30_3a_41_30_3a_31_32_00 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.4.1401=3 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.5.1401=1 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.6.1401=441 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.7.1401=20 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.8.1401=256 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.9.1401=130340327 E:738.10.5.133.1.22.1.10.1401=51903 S:18.1.3.0=10.10.15.4

this is a trap for a network device called cpe-test with an ip of 10.10.15.4

is there a way to reference a DNS library internally or externally?

I'm also having a little of a hard time getting them to show up in the first place.

I am successfully monitoring the host "edgegenie" and have a trap service definition on the board. now i just need to be able to send the individual traps to the board under traps now.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks
TA
