Integration of Nagios with Netcool

Post by connect2vamsi »

Hi Folks,

I am new to nagios, i can say it is a wow!
I would like to integrate nagios to Netcool. Initially i thought of looperng, but changed my approach.
For this I should send traps to Netcool Probe Server, wherein the probe fetches these traps and convert them into alarms.
I am trying the below link for this
http://www.askarali.org/SNMPTraps_Nagios.html

I have been provided with a MIB with OID ".1.3.6.1.4.1.193.136".
I have converted this to a format which Netcool understands and found out that there are three main parts mentioned in this MIB
1) Nagios-Alarm
2) Nagios-Clear
3) Nagios-Heartbeat
I was very happy with this and finished the configs at Netcool end.

Later I tried to configure NagiOS to send traps to a server, from that link I found another MIB with OID ".1.3.6.1.4.1.20006.1".
Now this became my major concern. This is giving info about
1) Host Events
2) Service Events
3) Host Notifications
4) Service Notifications

Now my questions are:

1) Why do I need these two MIB's
2) Does Nagios has MIB's. I mean Nagios is a monitoring tool it is not a device, then how come it contains MIB's.
3) Does I miss some info coming from Nagios if I don't include the second mentioned MIBS with OID ".1.3.6.1.4.1.20006.1"

I appreciate your help.

Thanks in Advance,
NVKR.
