All hosts grey since reboot (again)

Hello,
As the CCM had a problem this morning and I wasn't able to solve it by doing a process state restart or monitoring engine restart, I decided to reboot the server and I have the same problem as the last time I rebooted the server. All my hosts are in grey state and notifications are disabled.
I followed the directions you gave me last time I had this problem
http://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtop ... s&start=10
Code: Select all
service ndo2db stop
service mysqld stop
service postgresql stop
service nagios stop
shutdown -r now
This behaviour does not seem normal to me. I already did a mysql repair following the directions in
http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagi ... tabase.pdf
But my hosts are still grey.

I found a solution in the meantim in
http://support.nagios.com/forum/viewtop ... 19&p=61668
When I apply config, the host become green again. I got this issue the last two times I rebooted. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

It is possible that your
retention.dat file is corrupted, you can try removing it though this will reset all current check times.
Code: Select all
service nagios stop
rm -rf /usr/local/nagios/var/retention.dat
service nagios start

What do you mean with "this will reset all current check times"?

All of your hosts/services will go into "pending", and will be re-checked.

Hello,
Just had to expand the disk and add two cores to the Nagios XI server and after the reboot all hosts were greyed out again. Applying configurationn helped, but as I already deleted the retention.dat file not long ago, What could be the reason my hosts are going grey after a reboot? I saw this problemn the last 4 reboots I've done to the server.
Grtz

Looks like you may not be retaining status information on your objects, to change this, navigate to them in the CCM and under 'Check Settings' make sure that Retain Status Information is ticked, then save and apply configuration on them.

Sorry Sam, but all my host are on skip retain status info, but their template is on "On", so I guess the template's value is used no?

Yep, in that case it would be, I'd take a look there and verify what that setting is changed to.

I'm sorry Sam, but all the hosts I have and these are multiple types of hosts ranging from switches, servers, web applications, who are all greyed out after a reboot. The template's retain status information is on, so I still have no idea why all my hosts are greyed out after a reboot.
